CIC's holdings in America

We knew this was coming. By all accounts, the China Investment Corporation is more then happy to fill out any regulatory documents that might need filling out. In this case, we get a very accurate picture of what companies the CIC have invested in over the last few months ending on December 31, 2009. Some investments, like BlackRock and Morgan Stanley were already made public. This filing also confirmed a few investments, most notably Visa. There was considerable discussion that it was not the CIC, but in fact the State-Administration For Foreign Exchange that took the investment.  This appears to be incorrect.

The CIC is not willing to set up shell companies to relieve themselves of these regulatory filling. This is a direct opposite of most most Sovereign Wealth Funds. Credit must be given to them for this. The CIC, however, have not released any information on any possible hedge funds, real estate, fixed income or derivatives investments. While it is very possible that the CIC has not made any real estate investments, it's very likely that they have made fixed income and hedge funds investments.

A few more details here and there and the CIC will fast become one of the more transparent SWFs.
