Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa has been Minister of Finance in the Kingdom of Bahrain since January 2005.
He represents the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and other regional institutions, including the Arab Monetary Fund, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Arab Fund for Economic & Social Development. In Bahrain, he is Chairman of the Social Insurance Organisation, Chairman of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company B.S.C., a Board Member of the Economic Development Board (EDB), and a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Bahrain and the Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research. He helped establish the Bahrain Stock Exchange, for which he was Head of Operations from 1989 to 1996 and Director from 1997 to 2001. He was appointed Governor of Bahrain’s Central Bank, the Bahrain Monetary Agency, in 2001.
