Areva is a nuclear energy company based in France.
The Kuwait Investment Authority has agreed to take a stake in Areva on December 10, 2010. The KIA will pay $792 million for a 4.8% stake in the group. The KIA will have to be approved by Areva's supervisory board on December 11.[1] The KIA was in talks with Areva for several months.[2]
The Qatar Investment Authority was in talks with Areva for over 10 months on an investment by the QIA into Areva. It appears talks have ended between the two parties with an agreement.[3] In January 2010, the QIA was being rumored as a possible investor into Areva.[4] According to a press account on March 26, 2010, Areva and the QIA are currently working out an agreement that would allow for an investment.[5] Nuclear power can be used to provide power for liquefying natural gas. Qatar is one of the largest sources of LNG. In a report in November 26, 2010, Challenges magazine reported that the QIA and Areva had continued their talks but both sides had different valuations in mind. [6]
