Bumi (originally named Vallar) is a holding company based in the United Kingdom. The company was founded by Nat Rothschild. It primarily holds coal related assets. It was listed in July 2010. Bumi owns a 29% stake in Bumi Resources. It was expected that Bumi will acquire an majority stake of the company within a few years but as a result of various complications from shareholders and allegations of corruption at Bumi Resources, a takeover is not expected to occur.
According to the Financial Times, the China Investment Corporation and Vallar held discussions to seek joint investments. The report further said that the CIC could provide up to $100 million; however, it is believed these talks ended without resolution.
