CITIC group – established on Oct. 4, 1979 by Rong Yiren, former Vice President of PRC. State-owned conglomerate CITIC Group oversees the government's international investments, as well as some domestic ones. Its approximately 45 subsidiaries on four different continents include financial institutions (nearly 80% of the company's assets), industrial concerns (telecommunications, construction, manufacturing), and service companies (media, technology). Holdings include stakes in CITIC Securities, CITIC Pacific, CITIC Resources Holdings, and CITIC International Financial Holdings. CITIC's leadership answers directly to the government's state council.
By the end of 2006, CITIC's total assets stood at RMB 929.2 billion with an after-tax profit of RMB 6.09 billion. CITIC is mainly engaged in financial industry, holding finance subsidiaries with complete licenses in banking, securities business, insurance, trusts business, funds, futures, etc. It owns comprehensive advantages and good development foreground in financial business. In the year 2006, CITIC’s financial subsidiaries obtained great achievements in reform and development, and major finance subsidiaries achieved a new profit record. Up to the end of 2006, the total assets of finance subsidia-ries have reached RMB 816.1 billion, which is 78.3% of CITIC Group’s total assets. Total revenue amounted to RMB 38.77 billion, which was 47% of CITIC Group’s total revenue; net profit amounted to RMB 5.04 billion, which was 77.9% of CITIC Group’s net profit.
