China in Kenya

China has several projects in Kenya currently underway.
CNOOC is involved with a oil exploration project in north Kenya. The project started in October 2009. CNOOC also has rights to explore a second block in the Lamu basin.
Kenya is hoping China will finance a major development of a port and transport corridor between the Sudan and the coast of Kenya. This would allow a new export route for oil from Sudan. The expected cost of such a project is expected to run in multi-billion dollar range.
