Glencore is a commodities trader based in Switzerland. The company became public in May 2011. Xstrata and Glencore have agreed to merge in 2013.
The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation and Aabar Investments were cornerstone investors during the IPO. Aabar acquired $850 million worth of shares, making them the largest investor in the IPO. Aabar currently has a 1.43% stake in Glencore. The GIC acquired $400 million worth of shares, which give the GIC a 0.4853% stake at the time of the IPO. The GIC has since increased their stake to 0.5553% as a result of buying additional shares.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
Glencore sold $2.2 billion in convertible bonds in December 2009. The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) purchased some of these bonds. The issue values Glencore at $35 billion.
