Harrods is a major high end department store in London, United Kingdom. Harrods is currently owned by Mohammed al-Fayed.

Qatar Holdings, a unit of the Qatar Investment Authority bought the department store from al-Fayed for £1.5 billion. The deal was announced on May 8, 2010. Rumored surfaced of a possible sale in March 2010 but al-Fayed publicly denied that the store was up for sale.[1] Other accounts expressed that the deal was about to be signed before al-Fayed had doubts and pulled the sale.

In an interview with the FT, Ahmad Al Sayed, CEO of Qatar Holdings, said that they would be interested in further developing the Harrods brand by building new stores and creating an online store. [2]

Harrods Hotels

In July 2012, Qatar Holdings announced that they would build at least one, if not several, branded Harrods branded hotels. The 1st agreement to build one in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the second one planned in Sardinia, Italy.[3][4]
