Knut N. Kjær is the former Executive Director of Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) which manages The Government Pension Fund of Norway. He is currently the president of Riskmetrics Group. He serves on the China Investment Corporation's International Advisory Council. He was executive director of NBIM from 1998 - 2007.

Previously, he was executive manager of NBIM with responsibility for developing the new management organization. He led the project that prepared the ground for the management of the petroleum fund and the bulk of the foreign exchange reserves. Important challenges included building up equity management, efficient market investment of substantial inflows of new capital, generating added value through active management and promoting corporate governance through ownership interests.

Knut N. Kjær, age 51, completed his degree in Economics in 1982. He was a research fellow at the Institute of Economics at the University of Oslo and was employed half-time in the Research and Information Department of Norges Bank in the period 1981-1982. He has also worked in the Research Department of Statistics Norway and participated in the "Scenarios 2000" project. In the period 1986-1994 he was researcher/senior partner in Econ, Centre of Economic Analsysis and was one of the founders of the company. He was executive vice president in Storebrand in 1994-1997 and a member of the company's corporate management.
