From Taighde
LIA-Mediobanca JV is the planned joint venture between the Libyan Investment Authority and Mediobanca, an Italian bank. The JV is planning on having an initial capitalization of between $250 million to $500 million. The LIA will contribute most of the funding. The fund will target distressed Italian companies in the pharmaceutical, information technology and real estate sectors. The agreement in principle was announced in February 2009, but it is unclear when the final paperwork will be signed. As of March 2009, no final agreement has been signed and very few details have been settled.
