Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) is a separate part of the Norwegian central bank (Norges Bank) and is responsible for investing the international assets of the The Government Pension Fund of Norway, the world's second largest sovereign wealth fund (SWF) of over 400 billion dollars U.S. NBIM also manages the major share of Norges Bank's foreign exchange reserves and the Government Petroleum Insurance Fund.

NBIM invests in international equities and fixed income instruments, money market instruments and derivatives.

NBIM was expanded from 41 employees in 1998 to 130 in 2006.


As of November 2007, NBIM has a staff of about 170 from more than 20 countries and offices in Oslo, London, New York and Shanghai.
