Ovoot Tolgoi

Ovoot Tolgoi is a open-pit coal mine in Mongolia. It also has large deposit of copper and gold. The development is split into 2. One, which is lead by SouthGobi Energy is developing the coal mine. Ivanhoe Mines, along with Rio Tinto, are working on mining the copper and gold portion of the mine. The mine currently produces 1.5 million tons of coal a year. The mine is expected to produced at full capacity 8 million tons of coal a year. It is approximately 40 km from the Chinese border.
SouthGobi Energy recieved a $500 million investment by the China Investment Corporation.
