Takeover rumors

In August 2010, BHP Billiton launched an unsolicited takeover of PotashCorp. The bid was rejected by PotashCorp's board of directors. BHP has promoised to launch another bid. However, since then, there has been much speculation on the possibly of another company or a consortium of companies coming forward to block another bid by BHP. Sinochem, a Chinese state-owned conglomerate has led this speculation. Some sovereign wealth funds have been rumored to join a consortium, including the China Investment Corporation and Temasek Holdings. According to the FT, Sinochem has had talks with Temasek for a possible bid. Temasek has also been approached by the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund to join a consortium.
