Sovereign Wealth Funds' Investments in the Energy Sector

Verenex Energy is a small Canadian oil firm. The company mostly operates in Libya.

The Libyan Investment Authority bought the company for C$316 million on November 5, 2009. Libya blocked a deal between Verenex and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) that offered shareholders C$10 a share. This is about C$3 more then the LIA offered after the rejection of the CNPC deal. The deal was approved by shareholders on December 11, 2009.
