Abu Dhabi Chemicals Industrial City
From Taighde
Abu Dhabi Chemicals Industrial City is a major project currently being developed by International Petroleum Investment Company, Borealis AG and the Abu Dhabi Ports Company. The Abu Dhabi Investment Council is offering guidance and possibly some funding for the project. 36% of the project will be owned by IPIC. The city will be located in Khalifa Industrial Zone (KPIZ) at Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, which is mid way between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The project will consist of a world-scale naphtha cracker, downstream propylene and ethylene derivatives; a world-scale reformer, xylene, benzene, cumene, phenol and derivatives units. Upon completion of the first phase, expected in 2013, the complex will be the largest in the world. The first project to be built is the Chemaweyaat Complex 1. It is expected to be the world's largest grassroots fully chemicals integrated complex with a total production of around seven million tons per annum of olefins, aromatics, oxide and ammonia derivatives. It is expected to be complete by 2013.
Chemaweyaat development committee is responsible for coordinating the project.
