Khazanah Nasional (KN) is Malaysia's Sovereign Wealth Fund. It was created in 1993 and has more then $25 billion in assets. Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi is the chairman of the fund. Azman bin Hj. Mokhtar is the Managing Director. This fund has focused primarily on Malaysian's companies but have started expanding to overseas markets.
On March 10, 2009, Malaysia announced that it would be increasing the size of the fund by $2.7 billion to be used on telecommunications, infrastructure, hotels and theme parks. It will help bring up these sectors that have seen a downturn as a result of the global economic crisis. The fund had access to these funds starting in April 2009.
Khazanah plays a very large role in the Malaysian economy and is deeply involved in any company that it has a stake in.

Investments
Khazanah is mostly involved in Malaysian companies but increasingly are looking to invest in other countries. As of 2009, 12% of their investments have been in other countries. They have focused on Asia. So far Khazanah has made no plans to invest in Africa or Europe, but like most SWFs, they will make an investment if they feel that the investment is in their best interest.
Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said, in September 2010, that with Khazanah's recent investments, they are expecting to see returns of 20% compared to 2009's 13% return
Khazanah is willing to take out loans to finance investments.
China
According to press accounts in May 2008, Khazanah will soon start making investments in China. Khazanah opened a Beijing office on October 23, 2008. Ben Chan is heading up the office.
Divestments
Khazanah plans to divest close to a $1 billion in 2010 mostly in 'government-linked companies'. The money will be spent on overseas investments. Khazanah will attempt to sell a majority of their 32% stake in Pos Malaysia Bhd, the state's postal company.
Bond issue
Khazanah launched a series of sukuk(Islamic bonds) in the Singapore debt market in August 2010. Khazanah issued $1.5 billion worth of bonds. The bonds were issued in five year ($600 million) and ten year ($900 million) tranches. [1]
