Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company is the main investment arm of the government of Bahrain. Established on June 28 2006, Mumtalakat now manages a portfolio of around $5 billion, focused primarily in Bahrain.

Mumtalakat is considered to be one of the more transparent Sovereign Wealth Fund. It tends to act more as a private equity firm then a traditional SWF.

In 2010, Mumtalakat announced that it would invest in bonds and stocks outside of Bahrain. [1] It also expects to receive a credit rating in 2010.

Mumtalakat is an active shareholder and investor in diverse business and industry sectors in more than 35 commercial enterprises, nationally and internationally, from aluminum production to property development, tourist sites to food production, and transport to telecommunications.
