Songbird Estates is a United Kingdom based property firm that primarily owns the majority of Canary Wharf. The Qatar Investment Authority controls 24% of the company. The Government of Qatar directly held a 14% stake since 2004 until it transferred the state to the QIA. Qatar Holdings holds the QIA's stake.
According to a press accounts in June 2010, the QIA was interested in acquiring the remaining 76% of the company for $1 billion. Songbird has denied the rumors. Songbird will be issuing new equity in September 2010. They are expected to raise £140 million.[1] The QIA might increase their stake using the open market.
